Procedures
Before Flight Day
After a flight certificate has been purchased, the purchaser or gift recipient calls Spectrum Balloons at 636-530-9888 to schedule a day and time for their flight. Balloons fly just after sunrise and just before sunset. The night before a morning flight, or early afternoon before an evening flight, scheduled passengers are notified if their flight is a "go" or "no go". The go, no-go decision is based upon forecast weather conditions. Additionally, passengers will be given a "not later than" time to arrive at our BalloonPort along Airport Road at Cepi Drive in St. Louis, MO.
Flight Day
Once checked in, passengers are introduced to their pilot and crew. After a short briefing, pilots, passengers and crew load up in balloon chase vehicles and depart for the selected launch site, The launch site is selected based upon the wind. Spectrum provides all transportation to the launch site and back to our BalloonPort after the flight. Spectators and family are provided instructions and are welcome to follow the chase vehicles through all phases of the flight. The entire experience takes three to three and one half hours.
After The Flight
After the flight everyone returns to the BalloonPort. After a restroom break, everyone gathers in our gazebo or indoor meeting room for a Champaign toast and to share their experience with other passengers and crews. Champaign or sparking grape juice and a balloon pin are included in the cost of each flight certificate. Spectrum Balloons has a very nice store, gift shop and small ballooning museum. Feel free to browse around and look before or after the flight.
